About DocSafe
DocSafe began with a drawer of batteries
DocSafe started in 2018 with one product: a zip case that keeps household batteries apart, lined with fire-resistant fabric. It solved a small problem well. People wrote back asking for the same fabric around something they cared about more.
So we made a flat bag for documents. Then a case with a lock, since a bag anyone can open only does half the job. Then a box that takes hanging folders, for people who file the way offices do. Each step came from a question a buyer asked.
Today the DocSafe range runs from a one-pound pouch to a 43 inch bench with a locked bay under the seat. The idea has not changed. Put the papers you could not replace in one place, and make that place easy to grab.

Bag or box
Two ways to keep documents, side by side
A DocSafe bag is light and flat. A DocSafe box is rigid and locks. Most homes end up with one of each: the box stays on the shelf, and the bag goes in the car when you travel.

Document bag
- Weighs about one pound
- Lies flat in a drawer or a backpack
- Holds letter and legal sheets unfolded
- No built-in lock
- No rigid shell
How a DocSafe case is built
Wall, lock and room inside, part by part
Three parts decide what a DocSafe case can do for your papers: the wall around them, the lock on the zipper and the room inside.
The wall
Silicone-coated fiberglass outside and aluminum foil inside, in 2 to 12 layers. Heat ratings for these materials run from 2000°F in our file box with lid to 6400°F in our largest document box. The coating also keeps spray out.
The lock
A 3-digit combination holds the zipper pulls together, so there is no key to hide or lose. 14 of our 20 products have one. The flat bag and the file box with lid close without a lock.
The room inside
A bag takes letter and legal sheets unfolded. A document box adds fixed slots for passports, cards and drives. A file box hangs folders on rails and folds flat when it is empty.

Using it well
A fire-resistant case works best with a plan
Fabric cases slow heat and shed water from a hose. They buy time. Keep yours low in the house, near the door you would leave by, and away from the kitchen.
Put copies somewhere else: a scan in the cloud, a set with a relative. Check the contents once a year, when you renew a passport or an insurance policy. A case you can find in the dark and lift with one hand is worth more than a heavier one you would leave behind.
